Catasetum Orchid – How to grow and care for Catasetum orchids

Catasetum Is one of the orchid varieties originating from the tropical Americas with unique colors creating its own charm of this orchid. Although its blooming time is not long, with its own characteristics, this flower is also loved by orchid lovers and learns how to best care for them. To help you understand more about the care and characteristics of this orchid, “Nguyen Thuan Cute” would like to introduce to you some catasetum care methods.
– This is one of the groups of more than 110 species of biogenous or rocky, widely developed in Brazil. The characteristic of Catasetum is that the onion is fat, round and cylindrical and at the end of the practitioner has broad leaves, these leaves are usually wide when the practitioner matures, with long flowers bearing many small flowers or waxy color.
– The male and female variation is achieved primarily on color and shape. 1. Temperature, humidity and watering method, off season
Ideal growth temperature for Catasetum is between 20oC and 27oC and growth temperature could be greater than Cattleya because this is a hot zone orchid. Relative humidity for the main tree is 80% because it is a moisture-tolerant plant with broad and thin leaves, so the growing season is usually from early March to late April.

2. Lighting, fertilizer needs and substrate
– Catasetum is light-loving but can not withstand direct light, plants need 70% light from 15000 to 20000 1m / m2.
– As for fertilizers, fertilizers such as organic fertilizers can be used with the formula 30-10-10 with a dose of 1 teaspoon / 1 liter of water. You can fertilize the plant once a week / 2 times and the starting time should be from March to October.

The substrate of Catasetum is similar to that of Cattleya, but potted gives better results than potted.
3. Method of propagation
– It can be said that Catasetum is one of the rare orchid varieties in Vietnam.
